Press Ganey provides regular reporting of healthcare organization data to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for quality measures reporting. Patients and caregivers rely on CMS’s Five-Star Rating System to help select the facilities at which they would like to receive care. Incomplete records can negatively impact healthcare organization ratings and in turn, if potential patients select your facility for care.

Recently, our client received their Press Ganey Audit emails and noticed the discharge disposition was missing from one of the patient records. After researching the issue with the Clinical Data Analyst, we determined that the patient record was incomplete in the source system.

Something like this happens occasionally. Here’s how to solve this problem:

Wait until after the user updates the record in the source system and after the record propagates into the data warehouse. Next, check in with the user and review the patient record in the data warehouse. See if any changes were made or if the discharge disposition was filled in. Then, send an update file of the patient record. Finally, confirm with the client’s Press Ganey representative to ensure the record is complete in their system.
