According to a recent survey conducted by TDWI (The Data Warehousing Institute), the most-cited barrier to creating coordinated data management practices within an organization is a corporate culture based on information silos.

The main reasons why silos still exist today, despite being aware that they are unhealthy to organizational structure, are physical barriers, lack of collaboration, and resistance to new technologies or processes. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for this problem, but by understanding the underlying factors we are able to mitigate issues and find a pathway to success.
