Chateaux Principal Ken Zimmerman moderated a panel discussion on the latest cybersecurity trends and threats in the U.S. and Japan on October 30, 2013. Just over 100 people from various companies and industries gathered at the Japan Society Headquarters in New York City for the luncheon and panel event. Speakers included security experts Jeffrey Greene, Senior Policy Counsel for Cybersecurity and Identity, Symantec Corporation; William Saito, Founder & CEO, InTecur; Austin P. Berglas, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Cyber Branch, FBI New York Office; and Tom Harrington, Chief Information Security Officer, Citi.
During the session, each panelist shared insights from their experiences working in different sectors of the security field. They covered personal as well as corporate security best practices, stressing the fact that in today’s day and age you can never be too careful in protecting your information. “It’s not a matter of if, but when, you will get attacked,” all four panelists agreed. Other key points included the importance of taking a preventative rather than a reactive approach to cybersecurity, and to designate time and efforts to review the actions you will take in case of a cyber-crime attack. “Security is still an afterthought for most businesses; it needs to be day-one important,” said William Saito.
The panel did an excellent job of calling attention to the critical issues we face with cybersecurity today and in the future and provided helpful and actionable advice for all attendees. John Yang, Vice President & Senior Analyst – Credit Department, Mizuho Securities USA, commented “I thought the discussion was very interesting. Ken was a great moderator, very knowledgeable and professional!” Ken Zimmerman said “I was honored to partake in such a high caliber event. The speakers truly captivated the audience, tackling several difficult questions with a fascinating and eye-opening discussion.”
